Games that require a lot of time or strategy can be frustrating for large groups, as people are likely to get bored or lose interest. With that in mind, here are five of the best card games for large groups:
Crazy Eights
Crazy Eights is a simple yet fun card game that can be played with a large group. The aim of the game is to get rid of all of the cards in your hand, and the first player to do so is the winner.
To play, each player is dealt a hand of cards. The player to the left of the dealer starts the game by playing any card from their hand. The next player then must play a card of the same suit or rank (e.g. if the first player plays an Ace of Spades, the next player can play any Ace or any Spade). If a player cannot play a card, they must draw cards from the deck until they can play.
The game is won by the first player to get rid of all their cards. The player can also win if the other players run out of cards.
Uno
Uno is another simple yet fun card game that is perfect for large groups. The aim of the game is to get rid of all of your cards before the other players.
To play, each player is dealt a hand of cards. The player to the left of the dealer starts the game by playing any card from their hand. The next player then must play a card of the same color, rank or suit (e.g. if the first player plays a red 7, the next player can play any red card or any 7). If a player cannot play a card, they must draw cards from the deck until they can play.
The game is won by the first player to get rid of all their cards. The player can also win if the other players run out of cards.
War
War is a simple yet fun card game that can be played with a large group. The aim of the game is to capture all of the other player’s cards.
To play, each player is dealt a hand of cards. The player to the left of the dealer starts the game by playing any card from their hand. The next player then must play a card of the same rank (e.g. if the first player plays an Ace, the next player must play an Ace). If a player cannot play a card, they must draw cards from the deck until they can play.
The player with the highest ranking card captures the other player’s card and adds it to their hand. If both players play the same rank of card, then there is a”war” and each player must play another card. The player with the highest ranking card captures all of the other player’s cards and adds them to their hand.
The game is won by the first player to capture all of the other player’s cards.
Spoons
Spoons is a simple yet fun card game that can be played with a large group. The aim of the game is to collect four of the same rank of card before the other players.
To play, each player is dealt a hand of cards. The player to the left of the dealer starts the game by playing any card from their hand. The next player then must play a card of the same rank (e.g. if the first player plays a 7, the next player must play a 7). If a player cannot play a card, they must draw cards from the deck until they can play.
As soon as a player has four cards of the same rank, they grab a spoon from the center of the table. The last player to grab a spoon is out of the game.
The game is won by the last player remaining in the game.
